Golson gets extra incentive before first practice at FSU

golsonFormer Myrtle Beach High quarterback Everett Golson didn’t need any more motivation going into Monday’s first day of practice at Florida State. He got some anyway, from an unlikely source.

ESPN radio host and college football expert Paul Finebaum took a shot at Golson and the Seminoles last week when the preseason rankings listed Florida State at No. 8 in the nation. He said FSU has “no business” being in the top 10, in part because of Golson.

“I realize that they’re trying to replace Jameis Winston,” Finebaum said. “They have Golson, who to me, has been unimpressive since the 2012 season at Notre Dame.”

Golson, a graduate transfer from Notre Dame, led the Fighting Irish to the 2012 BCS National Championship Game against Alabama as a redshirt freshman. He missed the 2013 campaign due to an academic-related suspension and struggled with turnovers last season.

Golson is considered the frontrunner to replace Winston, the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft. Golson responded Saturday via Twitter. “The fire been lit, but thanks @paulfinebaum for adding fuel to it!”
