Grigg’s birdie spree leads MB to another runner-up

mbgolf-griggfloMyrtle Beach High sophomore golfer Holden Grigg may want to clear out some extra room in his trophy case over spring break. At the rate he is going, Grigg is going to need it.

Grigg made eight birdies over the last 11 holes in Tuesday’s final round of the Anderson Brothers Bank Invitational to capture low medalist honors in his second tournament in three days. Grigg’s second round of 64 gave him a two-day total of 138 – good for first place by one stroke – and helped the Seahawks rally for runner-up honors in their second straight tournament.

After coming back to place second in the Blue Jacket Invitational over the weekend, Myrtle Beach repeated the feat against a tough field in Florence. The Seahawks shot to a first-day 311 at the Country Club of Florence for fourth place before moving to the Country Club of South Carolina and charging up the leaderboard to place behind champion AC Flora (579).

All four Seahawks improved their scores on Day 2, with Grigg knocking 10 strokes off his opening-round 74. He birdied the final two holes to claim medalist honors. Myrtle Beach’s Keegan Vaugh shot 76-72–148, Dock Jarman made 82-73–155, and Seth Boyce shot 79-77–156 for a school-record round of 2-under 286. Myrtle Beach finished the tourney at 597, ahead of third-place Hartsville (613).
