Holiday hoops tournaments tip off Tuesday on Strand

In addition to the 12 days of Christmas, Grand Strand basketball fans also have 13 days of holiday high school hoops to look forward to this year.

From Tuesday till New Year’s Eve, a baker’s dozen of days with basketballs a-bouncin’ will hit the Strand, beginning with Tuesday’s tip-off of the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational girls showcase at Myrtle Beach Convention Center and Wednesday’s start of the Panther Classic boys tourney at Carolina Forest High School.

Tuesday night’s CresCom lineup features Atlantic (FL) vs C.E. Murray (SC) at 4, Kings Fork (VA) vs Potterhouse (FL) at 5:45, Center Point (AL) vs Myrtle Beach at 7 and Penfield (NY) vs Heathwood Hall at 8:45. The action continues Wednesday morning with Archbishop Carroll (PA) vs Crestwood (SC) at 9, Miami Sr. (FL) vs Pinewood Prep (SC) at 10:45, Perry County Central (KY) vs Edgewater (FL) at 12:30 and Our Lady of Mercy (NJ) vs Dreher (SC) at 2:15.

The college women get into the local action on Wednesday night with the triple header Carolinas Challenge, with North Florida vs Coastal Carolina playing at 5 p.m., East Carolina vs No. 19 North Carolina at 7 p.m. and Providence vs Clemson in the nightcap at 9. The high school hoopsters return to play quarterfinal and semifinal games on Thursday and Friday with the championship and consolation games held Saturday.

Meanwhile in Carolina Forest, three local boys teams will get their chance to shine in the Panther Classic. The eight-team tourney tops off Wednesday with St. James vs Carvers Bay at 4 p.m., Georgetown vs Charleston MS at 5:30, Beardon (TN) vs Myrtle Beach at 7 and Carolina Forest vs Oakbrook Prep in the 8:30 nightcap. The semifinals will be held Wednesday and the finals Thursday at 8:30 p.m., along with losers’ bracket action.

The roundball takes a T.O. for Christmas but tips off again the next day with the start of the 32nd annual Beach Ball Classic, along with several other local tournaments. Stay tuned for all the holiday hoops action at Grand Strand Sports Report.
