Hoops: MB girls, boys fall; Conway tops Carvers Bay

The Myrtle Beach High girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday night in the first round of the CreesCom Bank Holiday Invitational, falling to Christ The King (NY) 67-32.

The Lady Seahawks (4-1) had no answer for the CTK, which was led by Kaelynn Satterfield’s 16 points. Myrtle Beach was led b y Jalah Horton with 13.

* Miami Sr. (FL) 72, Socastee 29: Jennifer Rodriguez led a balanced attack with 12 points as four Lady Stingrays in double figures. Mae Mae Arnold led the Lady Braves (5-6) with nine points.

* Winder-Barrow (GA) 60, Neumann-Goretti 52 (OT): UConn commit Olivia Nelson-Ododa posted a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds for a hard-fought overtime victory.

* Wesleyan (NC) 58, Norcross (GA) 56: Senior Shaniya Jones scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Lady Trojans to a close victory over the Lady Blue Devils.

* Fayette County (GA) 67, Swansea 44: Rikkelle Miller’s 22 points was tops among four teammates in double digits to win a battle of Lady Tigers.

* Ferguson (FL) 57, Franklin County (KY) 50: Cheyanne Daniels and Natalia Pineda scored 16 points apiece to lead the Lady Falcons past the Lady Eagles.

Boys

* High Point (NC) Christian 74, Carolina Forest 65:The Panthers battled hard before falling in the opener of their home tournament.

Matt Beale led the Panthers with 14 points, and Kevin Jackson and Kyle Watkins added 11 points apiece.

* Conway 60, Carvers Bay 47: Wednesday’s first-round clash between undefeated teams in the Panther Classic could have been a championship game in many tournaments. The Tigers and Bears played like it was a title showdown too.

Conway outscored Carvers Bay 12-2 over the final 5 minutes to pull away for the victory in the Carolina Forest tournament. The Tigers advance to the winners’ bracket, while the Bears will shoot for the consolation title.

* South Miami 68, Myrtle Beach 62: The Seahawks went to toe-to-toe with South Miami before falling short in the end.
