Hoops: MB-CF split twinbill as Braves top Sharks in OT

mbhoops-13cfThe Myrtle Beach boys basketball team blew a fourth-quarter lead for the second straight game to open the season, allowing visiting Carolina Forest to steal a 60-55 victory on Friday.

Carolina Forest (2-1) led by double digits at halftime, 38-28, but Myrtle Beach rallied to take a 47-46 edge through three quarters. But the Seahawks (0-2) went cold in the fourth and the Panthers hit 8 of 10 free throws down the stretch to escape with a big road win.

Carolina Forest’s Duane Moss and Myrtle Beach’s Robert Swanson had a head-to-head shootout, with Swanson hitting five 3-pointers for a game-high 21 points and Moss connecting on three treys for a team-high 18 points. But the Panthers had the stronger supporting cast, with Jaylen Johnson and Tariq Timmons tallying 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The Sharks (1-2) were led by senior Cam Williams with 19 points and a strong final stretch to pull the Sharks back from eight down late. Jordan Furlough scored 15 and senior Trey Myers scored 12 points.

St. James returns to action Monday night at Georgetown.
