Jackson tosses another gem as Pelicans down Dash, 6-4

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (6-5) earned a second straight win Tuesday, beating the Winston-Salem Dash 6-4 in front of 2,101 fans at TicketReturn.com Field.

The Pelicans have won four out of five games at home this season and will look for their first series sweep tomorrow.

Right-hander Luke Jackson (2-0) started for the Pelicans and worked 5.1 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts in a winning effort. It was the right-hander’s deepest outing of the season. Starter Bryan Blough (0-2) was hit with the loss for Winston-Salem.

Trever Adams got the scoring started with an RBI double in the first inning. An inning later, Kellin Deglan added to the lead, launching a long solo home run to straight away right field, his second of the season.

The Pelicans built a 6-1 lead after scoring a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Rougned Odor put the Pelicans up 4-1 in the sixth inning with his third home run of the season. An inning later, the lead swelled further when Chris Grayson laced an RBI triple into the gap in right-center.

The Pelicans led the entire way, though the Dash threatened late in the game.

The Dash loaded the bases in the eighth inning, but Jon Edwards came in and recorded a pair of strikeouts to end the threat. Edwards allowed a pair of runs in the ninth inning but notched his first save.

Edwards struck out four consecutive batters during one stretch – the final two outs of the eighth inning and first two outs of the ninth. Right-hander Ryan

Harvey relieved Luke Jackson in the sixth an accomplished a similar feat – fanning the final two of the sixth inning and the first two of the seventh. Harvey worked two innings and allowed an earned run on two walks with the four strikeouts.

Trailing 2-1, the Dash threatened to tie the game in the fourth inning with runners on the corners. Jeremy Farrell got in a rundown between first and second and Grant Buckner, the runner at third, tried to score but Kevin Torres threw a strike to Deglan who absorbed a collision for the final out of the inning.

The Pelicans will send Victor Payano (1-0, 1.93) to the hill tomorrow as the Birds seek a series sweep. He’ll be opposed by right-hander Chris Bassitt (0-0, 4.50).
