Lacrosse: Carolina Forest, St. James host playoff foes

cflax-sjIn the brief history of local high school lacrosse, there have been zero playoff games held on the Grand Strand. On Tuesday, there will be three.

The Carolina Forest boys team earned a No. 7 seed in Class 5A and will host 10th-seedeed Byrnes in the opening round, and the St. James boys and girls teams – both in only their third season – welcome teams to the Shark Tank as an unprecedented six local teams qualified for the postseason.

The Panthers (10-5) may have earned their first-round home game in the final minutes of the Myrtle Beach Spring Break Tournament with their 12-11 championship game victory over JL Mann, which was awarded a No. 9 seed. Carolina Forest is 6-1 at home this season and 3-4 on the road.

The St. James girls were rewarded for their perfect 11-0 season with the highest seed ever earned by a local team, taking the No. 2 spot in Class 4A. The Lady Sharks face a familiar foe in rival Myrtle Beach, which was swept by St. James this season.

The St. James boys took the No. 4 seed in Class 4A and will face Academic Magnet. The No. 6 Myrtle Beach boys travel to Waccamaw, and the No. 9 Carolina Forest girls head to Nation Ford. All first-round games will be played Tuesday.
