Lady Chanticleers add two transfers to recruiting class

Coastal Carolina University first-year head coach Jaida Williams announced the addition of collegiate transfers Cedrica Gibson and Stephanie Isaacs to the Chanticleers’ 2013 recruiting class on Monday.

Gibson comes to Conway after spending her freshman campaign at St. John’s, while Isaacs was a two-year letter winner at Fairleigh Dickinson. Both Gibson and Isaacs will sit out the 2013-14 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

“We are extremely excited to add Cedrica and Stephanie to our Coastal family,” said Williams.  “Cedrica is a true point guard and a playmaker who loves to distribute the ball. She is an extremely hard worker on the defensive end of the floor and is the type of floor general that every coach yearns to have.  We believe Cedrica will have an immediate impact on our program when she becomes eligible for competition during the 2014-15 season.

Gibson, a 5-foot-7 point guard, appeared in nine games, averaging 5.7 minutes per contest in helping the Red Storm to an 18-13 record and a NCAA Tournament appearance. Gibson was a heralded prep prospect coming out of High Point Central High School, ranking as the No. 153rd-best collegiate prospect in the nation by All-Star Girls Report. Moreover, she was tabbed a top-50 point guard prospect by ESPN Hoopgurlz and the 10th-best player in the state of North Carolina by MaxPreps.com.

Gibson, a solid 3-point shooter as well as stand out point guard, led Oak Ridge Military Academy in scoring with an average of 11.6 points, 7.2 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game as a junior in 2010-11. As captain of the Cadets, Gibson recorded two 20-point games as a junior, including a season-high 28 points vs. Providence Day in Charlotte, N.C.

The High Point, N.C., native recorded 166 assists to help Oak Ridge to its No. 10 state rating in 2010-11. Gibson recorded double-digit assists seven times in 2010-11, including a season-best 16 against Word of God Christian Academy. In addition, Gibson led Oak Ridge in points (266), 3-pointers (45) and free throws (45) as well as assists (166) and steals (78) as a junior.
