Lady Chants bombarded by hot-shooting Georgia State

ccuwhoops-34Georgia State shot over 51 percent from the field and received 20 points from Jada Lewis as it defeated the Coastal Carolina women’s basketball team, 69-48, Thursday evening at the HTC Center.

The loss is the third straight for Coastal (9-13, 4-8), which is facing just its second three-game skid of the season. Georgia State improves to 9-14, 5-7 to take a game advantage over Coastal in the Sun Belt standings.

Lewis’ 20 points came on 7-of-14 from the floor, with one triple, and a perfect 5-of-5 from the line. Astaja Tyghter followed with 10 points, and six Panthers scored at least six points in the contest. Haley Gerrin grabbed five boards to pace a Georgia State team that totaled 32 rebounds.

Alexis Robinson’s 13 points and nine rebounds led the Chants, who finished the game shooting 34.5 percent from the field while hauling in 31 rebounds.

GSU’s greatest advantage came in the paint, where the Panthers scored 28 points to Coastal’s 18.

Coastal outscored Georgia State in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as the Panthers remained in front by at least 20 points to close out the game.

The Chants return to the HTC Center court Saturday to host Georgia Southern for a 1 p.m. game. Saturday’s contest is Coastal’s annual “Play 4 Kay” breast cancer awareness game. It is also Youth Day at the HTC Center. All kids 13 and under receive free admission and will be able to meet the team during a postgame autograph session.
