Lady Chants capture lead at Palmetto Intercollegiate

ccuwgolf-bunkerCoastal Carolina University women’s golf team shot a fall-best three-under 285 to take over sole possession of first place after the second round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate being held at Turtle Point Golf Course and hosted by College of Charleston at Kiawah Island.

The Chanticleers entered the day only two strokes off the lead, but quickly made up for that with their sizzling play led by Malene Kroboll Hansen’s three-under 69.  Her two-day total 142 (-2) has her leading the overall tournament and is only one shot off her career-best 141 after 36 holes of action.

Hansen’s teammate Marie Lunackova is not that far behind.  After shooting a two-under 70, Lunackova’s round moved her up seven places and now is only one shot behind Hansen with a 143 (-1) and is tied for second overall.

CCU had another under-par round as Stephanie Henning, who is playing in her first collegiate tournament, shot a one-under 71 and stands tied for 11th place overall with a two-day total of 145.

After shooting an even-par 72 during the event’s first day, Damla Bilgic put up another solid round with a three-over 75.  She is tied for 11th place with a 147.

Barbora Bakova also made a move on the individual leaderboard with her second round 76 (+4).  Her two-day total of 155 has moved her into a tie for 56th after moving up five spots from yesterday’s action.

CCU (292-285-577) will enter tomorrow’s third and final round of action with a six stroke lead over Mississippi (290-293-583). Campbell University (300-286-586), host College of Charleston (299-287-586) and Chattanooga (292-299-591) join CCU and Mississippi among the top five teams on the leaderboard.
