Lady Chants’ losing streak to Liberty reaches 44 straight

ccuwhoops-libertyThe Coastal Carolina women’s basketball team lost its 44th game in a row to Liberty on Saturday evening, falling 78-64 to the host Flames in Big South action at the Vines Center.

The Chanticleers’ fifth straight loss drops them to 10-13 on the season, and 4-10 in conference play. Liberty, who remains atop the Big South standings, improves to 18-6, 14-1.

A total of 49 personal fouls were called between the two teams, and five in 28 minutes for AJ Jordan forced the senior guard from the game after leading all players with 21 points while shooting 47.0 percent (8-17) from the field and 5-6 from the line. On the other side, Liberty earned 26 points from the charity stripe on 31 attempts.

The Chants played well as a team, shooting 39.6 percent from the field, including 38.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.9 percent from the line. Juniors Anna Vogt and Stephanie Isaacs each contributed 13 points, while Vogt, Jas Adams and Alira Mihocic shared the team’s rebounding lead with five apiece. Adams additionally added six points and a game-high four assists.

Liberty shot 44.2 percent from the field, and out-rebounded the Chants 37-30. Each side turned the ball over 18 times, and cashed in 23 points off of turnovers.

Ashley Rininger paced the Flames with 16 points and seven rebounds, followed by the 14 points of Mickayla Sanders. Sanders was also clutch from the line for Liberty, knocking down five of her six attempts.

The Chants continue their two game road swing on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game at Presbyterian. The Chants and Blue Hose battled to double-overtime in their previous meeting on Jan. 10. Jordan scored 36 points in the contest, but it was not enough as PC took the win, 84-78.
