Lady Chants’ schedule filled with top teams, tough tests

ccuwsoc-13header The Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team will host four non-conference games, travel to ACC member N.C. State and open Big South Conference play at home during its 2014 schedule, announced by head coach Paul Hoganon Thursday.

The Chanticleers will play nine home games overall, including four by the end of the first week of September. After opening the season at Jacksonville University on Aug. 22, Coastal will play four of its next five contests at CCU Soccer Stadium. The home opener is Aug. 24 against The Citadel and is followed by matchups versus UNC Charlotte on Aug. 29 and Wofford on Aug 31.

Coastal then travels to Raleigh, N.C., on Sept. 4 to take on the Wolfpack before its final non-conference home contest against Davidson on Sept 7. Three straight games on the road follow, including matchups with Elon and UNC Wilmington in the UNCW Tournament and a contest at Georgia Southern.

With the departure of VMI, teams will play a 10-game Big South Conference schedule; and Coastal will start league play at home for just the second time in the last seven seasons, hosting Longwood on Sept. 24. With matchups against High Point (Oct. 4) and Presbyterian (Oct. 8), the Chanticleers will play three of their first four conference games in Conway. The final two home games are against Campbell on Oct. 15 and defending tournament champion Liberty on Oct. 24.

The regular-season finale is at Charleston Southern on Oct. 28. CCU’s other Big South road games are at Gardner-Webb (Oct. 1), Winthrop (Oct. 11), UNC Asheville (Oct. 18) and Radford (Oct. 22).

First-round games of the Big South Tournament will again be played at the campus sites of the top four seeds. However, the semifinals and the final will be held for the first time at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. The semis are set for Nov. 7 with the championship on Nov. 9.

Coastal gets the season underway with an exhibition match at Wake Forest on Aug. 14. The 2014 Chanticleers will feature 18 returners and a 14-member freshman class.
