Lady Chants shatter record books in high-scoring win

ccuwhoops-14Coastal Carolina’s record-breaking win over Barber-Scotia at The HTC Center on Wednesday night saw the most points in a single game, and the largest margin of victory in program history as the Chanticleers ran away with a 121-32 victory against the Sabres.

The previous single-game point record for the Chants was 119, set in 2003 against Southern Virginia, while the largest margin of victory was 55 points, and came in a 103-48 win against Morris College in the 1982-83 season.

Coastal’s single-game point total is also the third-highest in Big South history, trailing Winthrop’s 127 in 2003, and High Point’s 125 in 2008.

Stephanie Isaacs led the Chants with 33 points, becoming the first Chanticleer to score over 30 points since Angelica Henry dropped 32 against UNC Asheville last January. Isaacs finished 11-20 from the field, including 6-13 from the beyond the arc, and added five free throws.

Anna Vogt was Coastal’s second-leading scorer, finishing with 20 points. Vogt completed her second consecutive double-double with 10 rebounds. AJ Jordan (15 points, 10 rebounds), Alira Mihocic (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Khadejah Wilkerson (12 points, 10 rebounds) also recorded double-doubles for the Chants.

Ced Gibson matched her season assist total with seven, while Jas Adams finished with six. Mihocic recorded six blocks, and tied Adams for the team lead with three steals.

As a team Coastal shot 55.8 percent from the field, its highest shooting percentage this season, and made 26 of its 36 free throw attempts. The Chants also posted season highs with 27 assists, nine blocks and 16 steals.

With the win the Chants move to 3-0 for the first time since the 2011-12 season, and just the seventh time in program history.

Coastal continues its five-game, season-opening home stand on Tuesday, Nov. 25 when the Chants host the visiting IPFW Mastodons. Opening tip is set for 7 pm at The HTC Center.
