Lady Chiefs ready to take it to the next level in 2011-12

“Next year” may finally be here for the North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs.

After falling short in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs last year and watching rival and two-time defending state champion Myrtle Beach dominate Region VIII-AAA in recent years, this could be the Lady Chiefs’ time to shine.

“We are bringing back most of last year’s team, so we are hoping to continue building on last year’s success,” North Myrtle Beach coach Jude Hunt said.  “After a disappointing loss in the final seconds of the first round, we have some unfinished business heading in to this season.”

Coming off an 18-8 campaign, the Lady Chiefs lost only one senior and welcome back a full list of returning starters, including junior and first team all-region selection Taylor Allman, who averaged 18 points, 5 steals and 5 rebounds per game last season.

North Myrtle Beach also returns juniors and all-region second-teamers India Farmer (10 ppg, 9 rpg) and Sharissa Chestnut (4 steals and 4 assists per game) and seniors Kendricka Bellamy (7 ppg, 4 rpg) and Jaquella Livingston (8 ppg, 9 rpg).

To add to the team’s number of weapons, sophomore swing-player Marci Chestnut moves up to the varsity program ater domnating at the JV level.

The Lady Chiefs have more experience, more talent and more depth in 2011-12, and they hope it all adds up to advancing farther in the playoffs.

“The girls are all focused on doing whatever it takes to take us to that next level,” Hunt said. “If we can stay healthy and continue to grow, both physically and mentally, we should be able to make that happen this season.”
