Volleyball Roundup: NMB tops Socastee, region race

The North Myrtle Beach volleyball squad officially established itself as the team to beat in Region VII-AAA with an easy 3-0 victory over visiting Socastee on Thursday night.

The Lady Chiefs dominated the match from start to finish, 25-12, 25-6, 25-14, to improve to 19-1 overall and 6-0 in the region. Socastee falls to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in region play, good for second place.

Playing without setter Tara Hix in the starting lineup due to an ankle injury, North Myrtle Beach did not miss a beat with backup setter Madison Treece guiding the attack. Senior Taylor Allman blasted five of her match-high 15 kills in the opening game as Treece dished out nine assists in the opening game.

The outcome of the match was never in question as the Lady Chiefs posted a great all-around effort from starters to reserves. Ellen Johnson added seven kills to the North Myrtle Beach attack while Pressley Fullum posted six kills. Libero Moriah Jones posted 26 digs and added six service aces and Hix came off of the bench to lead the team with 20 assists.

North Myrtle Beach returns to region action next Tuesday at Georgetown. Socastee welcomes West Brunswick (NC) for a non-region match on Monday.
