Allman, Grissett lead NMB sweep of Region 7-3A titles

On Senior Night at North Myrtle Beach, a pair of upperclassmen had huge nights in their final regular season games on their home court and turned the special occasion into a pair of region championship celebrations.

Senior Taylor Allman scored 28 points to help the Lady Chiefs (21-2 overall, 9-0 region) clinch the Region 7-3A girls title with a 54-43 win over Socastee. Moments later, senior Jaquan Grissett poured in 27 points in a 53-45 victory over the Braves as the Chiefs (17-7, 7-2) secured the region boys championship.

Both Allman and Grissett connected on six 3-pointers, with Allman hitting a perfect 6-for-6 and Grissett going 6-for-9. Grissett also surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career during the first quarter, then proceeded to lead the charge to the region championship. Matt Lindsey added 15 points in the winning effort.

Allman connected on 10-of-15 from the field and has now hit nine treys in a row after hitting all three from outside in NMB’s last outing. Fellow seniors Taylor White, India Farmer, Ja’Quella Livingston, and Sarah McClosky were also honored on their final home regular season contest. Livingston had nine points and seven rebounds and Farmer added eight points and seven boards.

Socastee (14-9, 5-4) got a career-high performance from freshman Kira Bell with 22 points, but the Lady Chiefs were able to limit seniors Blake Smith and Kirstin Zanardo to seven and six points, respectively. North Myrtle Beach wraps up the regular season Thursday at rival Myrtle Beach. Socastee takes on rival St. James looking to wrap up a playoff berth.

The North Myrtle Beach boys’ celebration was a bit more impromptu than the girls, who came into the game knowing it could clinch the title with a win. The Chiefs would be playing Myrtle Beach on Thursday for the region crown but the Seahawks were upset by Georgetown on Tuesday and fell out of title contention.
