Soccer Roundup: Socastee, Myrtle Beach score sweeps

The Carolina Forest soccer team suffered a 4-1 setback to rival Socastee on Tuesday night, but that wasn’t the Lady Panthers’ biggest loss of the night.

Just 2 minutes into the contest, senior and leading scorer Erica Gazzani suffered a knee injury that kept her out of the rest of the game and likely for several more weeks.

“I hurt my MCL (medial collateral ligament) in the last game but it wasn’t a big deal,” said Gazzani, the reigning Mammy’s Kitchen co-Athlete of the Week. “It must have been worse than I thought because the first time I tried to cut I hurt it again. I’ll probably be out at least two weeks.”

The Lady Braves (3-2) feasted on Carolina Forest (2-2-1) without its star player. Socastee’s Danielle Ives scored a pair of goals and Heather Kyker and Courtney Davis also had goalsĀ  for the Lady Braves.

Socastee goalkeeper Rikki Dollinger allowed only one goal on the night as Riley Lynch scored just before halftime to cut the deficit to 2-1, but the Lady Braves hit the gas in the second half to pull away.

* Myrtle Beach 2, West Florence 0: The Lady Seahawks (2-0) got a shutout performance from goalkeeper Jessica DeForge to blank the Lady Knights.

Myrtle Beach got goals from Mary Beth Hervig and Madison Tilford.

* Socastee 3, Carolina Forest 1: The Braves (6-0) stayed perfect on the season in downing Carolina Forest on Tuesday.

Carolina Forest goalkeeper Paul Blayton turned in an astounding 21 saves after earning a yellow card just 1 minute into the match but did allow three goals by the Braves – two from Connor Norton-Baker and one from Blake Smith.

Carolina Forest scored first on a goal by Michael Brooks but the rest of the match was all Socastee.

* Myrtle Beach 4, West Florence 1: Mason Lewis scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Seahawks (5-1) to an easy victory over the Knights.

Myrtle Beach’s Robert Wylie added a goal and an assist and Adolpho Aguilar chipped in a goal to round out the Seahawks’ scoring. Goalkeeper Anthony Silvestri allowed only one goal against the Knights.
