Tennis Wrapup: Panthers, Chiefs, Braves net sweeps

The Carolina Forest girls tennis team scored a 7-0 sweep of host Conway in a key Region VI-AAAA match on Thursday.

The Lady Panthers (2-4) saw No. 1 singles Lydia Gouhin defeat Kirby Groome 6-2, 6-0; No. 2 Drew Limpasuvan down Kaitlyn Brown 6-1, 6-1; No. 3 Lanie Ruedy beat Alexis McNeill 6-3, 6-3; No. 4 Jaden Nye defeat Savannah Coates 6-2, 6-2; and No. 5 Sophia Gouhin beat Tori Worley 6-3, 6-1.

In No. 1 doubles, Gouhin and Limpasuvan defeated Groome and Brown 8-3, and No. 2 Maddie Jones and Emilee Best took out Emily Newman and Hailey Cassidy 6-3, 6-4.

Carolina Forest plays host to Sumter on Monday.

* Socastee 7, St. James 0: The Lady Braves (8-0, 3-0) remained unbeaten by sweeping the Lady Sharks (2-5, 0-1) in a region rivalry.

No. 1 singles Rachel Gresko, No. 2 Anna Bryce-Cox, No. 5 Ashlyn Burns and the No. 2 doubles team of Haley Duvall and Sydney Presley all won their matches by 6-0 scores. Gresko and Bryce-Cox also teamed up to sweep No. 1 doubles in a pro set, 8-0.

Also for Socastee, No. 3 singles Jordan Wesel defeated Bailee Hunt 6-4, 6-0 and No. 4 Olivia Patton took down Haley Hunter 6-2, 6-0.

The Lady Braves travel to face also-unbeaten Myrtle Beach for first place in the region on Tuesday.

* North Myrtle Beach 7, Georgetown 0: The Lady Chiefs (3-2) defeated their visiting border rivals in impressive fashion, winning three sets that went to tiebreakers.

North Myrtle Beach No. 1 singles Amber Mincey defeated Penny Watts 7-5, 6-4; No. 4 Kimarria Vereen edged Hayley Grimes 7-5, 6-4, and the No. 2 doubles team of Jessica Beasley and Taylor Gore took a 3-6, 6-4, 10-3 decision from Allie Madison and Harley Lofton.

Winning singles matches in straight sets for the Lady Chiefs were No. 2 singles Caitlyn Wolf over Rchael Norton 6-3, 6-0; No. 3 Makala Gore over Sarah Harmon 6-1, 6-0; and No. 5Jessica Ella over Ashley Carter 6-2, 6-1.
