Liberty stops Lady Chants from historic series sweep

After earning two wins over Liberty yesterday, Coastal was looking to sweep the Flames in a three game series for the first time in program history on Sunday, but the Chanticleers came up short in the 4-2 loss.

The Chants are 32-15 on the season and 9-6 in Big South Conference action following Sunday’s action.

Coastal earned the only hit during the first two innings, as Sarah Maples reached first on a single to the shortstop in the first inning. The Chants took the 1-0 lead in the third inning following Maples second hit of the game, which was a double down the left field line that scored Jessie Winans.

Liberty picked up its first hit of the game in the top of the fifth inning on a single up the middle by Jenny Law. The Flames went ahead 2-1 during the sixth inning when Grace Nordan hit a single to center field that scored Amber Donovan and Kelby Allen.

The Chanticleers responded in the bottom of the inning on a home run to left center by Kiana Quolas. Quolas’ third home run of the season tied the game at two apiece.

Sammi Shivock hit a double to right center field that put the Flames back ahead in the top of the seventh, as Jill Stephens and Marybeth Sciolino each advanced home.

Winans reached first for the Chanticleers in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, but Coastal picked up the third out of the inning during the next at bat to end the game.
