Boys Hoops: Lindseys lift Chiefs; MB downs Braves

The North Myrtle Beach boys basketball team had five players score in double figures to lead the Chiefs to a 69-52 victory over visiting Wilson on Friday night.

Twin brothers Josh and Matt Lindsey combined for 33 points and 21 rebounds to lead the Chiefs (12-4 overall, 2-0 Region 7-3A) past the Tigers. Josh scored a game-high 17 points with nine rebounds and Matt made it a double-double performance with 16 points and 12 boards.

But the Lindsey brothers had plenty of support from their teammates. Forrest Vereen came off the bench to score 12 points for the Chiefs, while starters Jahlen Livingston and Jaquan Grissett contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.

North Myrtle Beach outscored Wilson 19-7 in the first quarter and never looked back. Wilson got a game-high 31 points from Patrell Rogers and teammate Jeff Gandy added a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards for the Tigers (8-6, 1-1).

* Myrtle Beach 67, Socastee 52: Nolin Butler and Solomon Cooper combined for 42 points to lead the visiting Seahawks (8-8 overall, 1-1 region) to a big victory over the rival Braves (4-7, 0-2).

The duo also combined for seven 3-pointers (four by Butler, three by Cooper) as the Seahawks led for most of the contest. Butler finishd with 22 points and Cooper had 20 to lead Myrtle Beach to its first region win.

Adonis McCray led Socastee with 15 points, with 12 coming in the first half. The Seahawks, leading 38-31 at the half, held him and the rest of the Braves in check for the second half en route to the victory.

* Carolina Forest 67, South Florence 58: The Panthers scored their first Region 6-4A victory of the season over the Bruins. Ryan Yurachek scored 23 points to lead Carolina Forest (4-11, 1-1).

* St. James 57, Georgetown 47: The Sharks (11-5 overall, 1-1 Region 7-3A) scored their first region victory of the season with a win over the Bulldogs (10-6, 1-1).

The Sharks had four players score in double figures, led by¬†Nehemiah Stafford’s 14 points. TreDarius McCalleum added 13 and¬† Caleb Duggan and Matt Strange tallied 12 points apiece.
