Local teams hold home turf at Great Carolina Shootout

strikersMore than 160 teams from throughout the Southeast descended on the Grand Strand to compete in the Great Carolina Shootout youth soccer tournament over the weekend, and hometown clubs held their own on the local pitches.

The Beach United Football Club’s Strikers swept their way to the championship of the Under 8/9 Boys Blue Division, winning all four games by a combined score of 23-0.

The Coast FA 02 Red won the Girls Under 12 White Division, avenging their only loss of the tournament with an impressive 4-0 victory over the FSA Thunder in the final.

The BUFC Fury finished second in the Under 13 Girls Blue Division, suffering a 2-1 defeat to the PYSL Lady Hurricanes in a hard-fought final.

BUFC also had three boys teams claim runner-up honors: The Storm finished second in the Under 10 Boys White Division; the Predators were runners-up in the Under 13 Boys White Division; and the Tiempo finished tied for second place in the Under 15 Boys Red Division.

Charleston Shootout

The Coast 02 Red boys lost twice to National League powerhouse SCU/MP 02 Elite but posted victories over DSC Rock Hill and WCAA Charlotte to finish as finalists for Coach Donnie Price.

The Coast 03 Red coached by Swavek Apanovicz hit their stride after a first match draw to post three consecutive wins and claim top honors in the U12 top division.

Coach Luis Brenes 04 Red boys outclassed the field in the top U10 boys division reeling off four consecutive one sided victories. The 04 Red outscored their opponents 26 – 2 over their four matches.

The Coast 05 Black team coached by Aaron Miller came up just short in the championship match to claim finalist honors in the second division of U9 boys.
