MB crowds all-region team; Wilson, Renfrows honored

Myrtle Beach dominated Region VIII-AAA again this season, so it only makes sense that the Seahawks also dominate the all-region team.

Myrtle Beach wide receiver Daquarius Wilson was named the Region VIII-AAA Player of the Year and 13 other Seahawks earned spots on the all-region first team roster.

Wilson has caught 23 passes for 355 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Seahawks to their fifth consecutive region crown in football.

Myrtle Beach also placed both quarterbacks on the first and second teams, with C.J. Cooper getting the nod for first team and Tyler Keane earning second-team honors.

Cooper has completed 98 of 149 passes for 1,357 yards and 16 touchdowns while Keane is 98-for-161 for 1,362 yards and 23 TDs. The juniors have rotated the starting job all season.

Other Seahawks on the first team include wide receiver Daquon Wilson, running back Tramond Wilson, defensive backs Chocolate Wilson and Lavanderick Wilson, linebackers Sean Michael Orcutt, Renard Pointer, defensive linemen Tyler Knox, Trey Vivian and Kerry Chestnut, offensive linemen Brian Molter and Jamie Wasserman and kicker/punter Max Huggins.

Socastee coach Tim Renfrow was named Coach of the Year and sophomore son Hunter Renfrow, who played quarterback, receiver and wingback this season, was named Athlete of the Year after taking over as starting QB and leading the Braves to a second-place finish in the region. No other Braves made the first team.

St. James running back Gregg Johnsen, who leads the area in rushing, was the Sharks’ lone first-teamer, and none from North Myrtle Beach made the list.

Local second-teamers include Myrtle Beach’s Keane (QB) and Heath Gray (OL); Socastee’s Adam Crane (RB and DL), Kot Kotcham (OL) and Walker Darnell (DB); St. James’ Jacob Lord (TE), Stephan Blake (DL), Bruce Causey (OL), Austin Brown (OL) and North Myrtle Beach’s Cameron Gore (WR) and Jeffrey Stevenson (LB).
