MB Kids Triathlon sees 135 swim, bike, run the distance

The 2013 Myrtle Beach Kids Triathlon saw 135 youth hit the pool, street and track at Pepper Geddings Recreation Center on Saturday.

With cloudy skies and cool temperatures giving competitors a break from the usual summer steam, the 7- to 14-year-old triathletes took advantage to post records times and attendance.

Ages 7 to 10 swam 100 yards, biked 4K and ran 1K en route to the finish line, with 7-year-old Matt Ingersoll winning the 7-8 Boys division with a total time of 23:58 and 7-year-old Carley Jackson taking the 7-8 Girls with a time of 28:29. Maggie Lambert won the 9-10 Girls in 24:40 and Hammond Vascovich claimed the 9-10 Boys in 23 minutes flat.

Ages 11-14 went double the distance, with Ben Kiger breaking the tape in the 11-12 Boys with a total time of 31:11 and Brea Jackson winning the 11-12 Girls in 42:17. Justin Roberts won the 13-14 Boys group in 43:56 and Alexis Skipper took the 13-14 Girls by posting a 43:46.

All racers received medals for their efforts and took part in a post-race party that included food, dancing and an awards presentation. This was the fifth annual event with increasing numbers and interest.
