MB Riptides dive into 2015 with strong start to season

mbriptides-15The Myrtle Beach Riptides swim team has already made a huge splash in 2015 with success at two meets in January.

At the final one-day meet of the 12/Under Grand Prix Series, the Riptides sent 11 swimmers to Mount Pleasant. The swimmers were able to garner 17 personal best times and qualified two new swimmers to the 2015 State Championships. Anaya Brown swam to four personal best times and her first-ever State Championship qualifying time in the 50-freestyle.

Joe Guthinger also swam to four personal best times and his first-ever State Championship qualifying time in the 50-backstroke.Seth Riley led all Riptides with the single largest improvement of more than 11 seconds in the 50-free.  Olivia Bailey, Stella Bailey, McKenzie Bowers, Jordan Brown, Kamea Herte, Naveah Johns and Ireland Rose all swam to at least one personal best time.  Jack Guthinger rounded out the squad.

At the Riptides’ Winter Invitational on Jan. 16-18 at the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness Center, nearly 200 swimmers from the Carolina’s attended the event.  The Riptides had 40 swimmers compete, earning 156 personal best times, 16 new State Championship qualifying times, five team records, three new State Championship swimmers and one new Age-group Sectional Championship time standard.

Ian Morgan led the Riptides with five new team records in the 200- and 500-freestyle events; 200-butterfly; and 100- and 400-Individual Medley events.  Morgan earned new SC State q-times in the 100-IM and 200-breaststroke and a new Age-group Sectional time in the 500-freestyle.

Peyton McWhorter led the Riptides with six new State Championship q-times in the 100-, 200- and 500-freestyle events; 200- and 400-IM events; and 200-butterfly on her way to 8 personal best times (1650-freestyle).  Ethan Nechemia led Riptides in most personal best times at nine and the single largest improvement of more than 2-minutes in the 1650-freestyle.

Rafael Adi, Chad Bateson, Joe Guthinger, Hannah McDonough and Jenn Paul each added new events to their State Championship repertoire. Dan Henington, Ireland Rose and Chloe Stampfle each earned their first-ever SC Swimming State Championships qualifying times.  They will join Rafael Adi, Chad Bateson, Eddie Bateson, Anaya Brown, Andi Churchill, Alyssa Cozart, Danielle Flaherty, Jo Guthinger, Hannah McDonough, Peyton McWhorter, Ian Morgan, Jenn Paul and Chase Teasley as part of Riptides’ largest-ever State Championship Team.

Maya Adi, Olivia Bailey, Stella Bailey, Eddie Bateson, Keyon Berenji, McKenzie Bowers, Anaya Brown, Jordan Brown, Dayton Busse, Andi Churchill, Connor Churchill, Alyssa Cozart, Jake Flaherty, Jack Guthinger, Ella Habib, Kailey Habib, Dev Hablani, Kamea Herte, Navaeh Johns, Matthew Key, Emily Larkins, Kylie McWhorter, Maddi Pannell, Seth Riley, Ella Speir, Chase Teasley, Sammy Trezza and Rui Zhang each had multiple personal best times at the meet.  Mackenzie Angwin was right on her times in several events.
