MB Track & Field Club wins medals at Coach O Classic

coach0Several local junior track and field athletes had medal-stand performances at the Coach O Carolina Club Challenge over the weekend at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

More than 30 clubs and 1,000 athletes competed in the annual event, hosted by the Myrtle Beach Track and Field Club. Teams from as far away as Florida and Colorado and kids from ages 6 to 18 took part in the meet.

“It’s a great event for all clubs preparing for State Junior Olympic meets happening within the next two weeks,” said Myrtle Beach Track and Field Club assistant coach Chrissie Ott.

The following members of the Myrtle Beach Track and Field Club won medals over the weekend:

* In Girls 15-16, MyKa’k Frazier won the high jump, Rhiannon Van Demark won the shot put and hammer throw, Kelsey Glover took second in the 800 meters, 1500 meters and 3000 meters, and Meghan Smith third in the triple jump.

* In Girls 13-14, Riley King won the 1500 meters, Kayla Watkins won the long jump and took second in high jump, and Mia Adcock won pole vault and finished second in 400 meters.

* In 11-12 Girls, Nandi Perez won the 1500 meters and finished second in the 3000 meters.

* In under 9-10 Girls, Anaya Brown took first place in 400 meters.

* In the Under 8 Girls division, Alana Perez was first in the 1500 meters and 800 meters, followed by runner-up Maris Jennings. Jennings also finished second in the long jump behind Tia Boatwright.

* In the Boys 17-18, Austin Copley won the 400 meters and was third in the high jump. Tyree Rakestraw won the triple jump.

* In the Boys 15-16, Angel Perez won the shot put and finished second in the javelin throw, Keahi Mendoza took third in the 3000 meters and 2000 steeplechase.

* In the Boys 13-14, Noah DuRant won the high jump and long jump, Kentay Rakestraw won the 400 meters and the triple jump, Jose Gonzalez took second in the 200 meters, Michael Mohr was third in the 800 meters,

* In the Boys 11-12, Ajavon Fredrick won the high jump, and Julian Dent was second in the javalin throw.

* In the Boys 9-10 division, Latrell Pitts won the shot put, and T’Mars McCallum took third in the high jump.
