MB’s Gordon, Mueller net top region honors in record year

Just as the Myrtle Beach girls soccer team swept its way to the Region 7-4A championship, the Lady Seahawks also cleaned up on the all-region awards.

Myrtle Beach senior Tristan Gordon was named the Region 7-4A Player of the Year after breaking the all-time Horry County Schools scoring record, and Lady Seahawks coach Blair Mueller, the previous record holder, was named Region 7-4A Coach of the Year. Gordon finished her high school career with 138 goals, three more than her coach scored as a player at North Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach also placed 12 players on the all-region squad, including senior Josie Posma. The two were selected to play in all-star games – Gordon in the Clash of the Carolinas on June 29-30 in Cary, NC, and Posma to the North-South All-Star Game on June 23 in Anderson. The Lady Seahawks had a total of 12 players make the all-region roster. Junior Annamarie Puglia and sophomores Wendy Arneberg and Molly Rion rounded out the first-teamers.

Region runner-up St. James placed a pair of players on the All-Region 7-4A first team – senior Stephanie Cumez Ortiz and Ilenne de los Santos.

North Myrtle Beach had three first-teamers, including senior Hadley Hudson, junior Eden Fowler and freshman Linsey Downey.
