Mingo Bay Baseball: Day 3 sees Seahawks rally for win

mbbase-10swingMyrtle Beach erased an early 5-0 deficit to defeat Horseheads (NY) 11-9 in a wild Mingo Bay Baseball Classic on Wednesday.

After spotting Horseheads five runs in the second inning, the Seahawks started chipping away at the lead with two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 6-all. Myrtle Beach then posted a five-run frame of their own in the sixth to complete the comeback. Horseheads threatened with three runs in the top of the seventh before the Seahawks slammed the door.

Myrtle Beach’s Davis Goodroe went 3-for-4 and Luke Edwards drove in four runs to lead the offense. Billy Leckie and Colbey Regan combined for eight strikeouts to limit Horseheads despite the Seahawks being outhit 11-10 and committing two errors to none.

* High Point Christian (NC) 3, Carolina Forest 1: The Panthers came out on the short end of a tight pitchers’ duel that remained scoreless until the final stages of the game.

High Point broke the stalemate in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Cecil Tanner, but the Panthers answered back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI double by Matt Beale. However, High Point scored two more in the eighth to get the win.

* Topsail (NC) 4, St. James 3: The Sharks saw their three-game winning streak snapped by Topsail in the Mingo Bay Baseball Classic.

St. James fought back from a 4-0 deficit to cut the lead to one run in the seventh but couldn’t complete the comeback. The loss spoiled a solid start by Anthony Peck, who struck out three and also got a hit at the plate. Troy Norcia went 2-for-3 and Trystan Freeman went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple.
