Moglia announces two-deep depth chart for Chanticleers

The Coastal Carolina football staff released its two-deep depth chart Thursday as the Chanticleers prepare for the 2012 season opener against visiting North Carolina A&T Sept. 1 at 6 pm.

The only real surprise on the depth chart was the demotion of All-Big South senior Andrae Jacobs at the SAM spot behind junior Mike McClure. Jacobs ranks fourth on the CCU all-time list for tackles for loss with 24.5 and 10th for unassisted tackles with 95, although both are expected to see significant action.

Upperclassman held down starting spots over younger players in most cases, although a pair of sophomores will start on the offensive line – left tackle Chad Hamilton and right guard Mo Ashley. The only position left unresolved was free safety, with juniors Philip George and Tyler McCarthy listed as co-starters.

First-year CCU coach Moglia says no starting positions are in cement. “This is where we are at right now,” he said. “I have been really impressed with how we have progressed from spring to the beginning of camp and from the beginning of camp to now.”

Fans will have two opportunities to interact with the Chants on Saturday. First, Coastal will host Fan Photo Day from 4:30-6 pm. Fans will have to opportunity to watch the end of practice, which is set to end at 5:15 pm, and meet the team, get photos and autographs. The last 45 minutes of practice – open to the public – will be held in Brook Stadium, weather permitting, and Fan Photo Festivities will be in the stadium as well.

Also Saturday, Coastal will host its annual Football 101: Ladies Night. Registration begins at 5:30 pm on the third floor of Adkins Field House, along with a cocktail social. The event itself runs from 6-8 pm in Adkins Field House team room, also on the third floor. For more information about Football 101, contact Kevin Olivett at 843-349-2268.
