Morgan leads strong CAC showing at statewide meet

CAC- Short Course States 2017Coastal Aquatic Club made a strong showing at the Short Course State Championships over the weekend in Greenville, setting a club record with 32 swimmers qualifying for the event.

South Carolina Swimming hosted the four-day competition as four CAC swimmers earned 16 TOP 10 finishes, led by Ian Morgan’s 8 TOP TENs and 3 TOP THREE finishes.  In fact, he made TOP TEN in every event he entered.  And, he set new 3 CAC team records along the way (200 Fly, 1,000 Free, and 1,650 Free). Top performers for the meet included:

• Ian Morgan:  2nd in 1,650 Free (i.e., The Mile); 3rd in 400 IM; 3rd in 500 Free; 4th in 200 Fly; 5th in 1,000 Free; 5th 200 IM; 6th in 200 Free; and 8th in 100 Fly.
• Harrison Clinton: 2nd in 100 Breast; 3rd in 200 Breast; 6th in 200 IM; 9th in 200 Fly; and 10th in 100 Fly.
• Taylor Steele: 5th in 100 Breast; 8th in 200 Breast.
• Ryan Eldred:  9th 100 Free.

Additionally, the following swimmers qualified for consolation finals (places 11-20) in the 15-18 age category:  Olivia McGonigal, Kater Wolff, John Grey Crosby, and Casey Mitchell.

While lowering her CAC club record in the 100 Breast, Taylor Steele posted a NCSA Junior National Qualifying Time.  CAC Relay teams also posted new CAC club record times:

• Boys 13-14 400 Free Relay: Ryan Eldred, David Zevgolis, Allen Poston, and Harrison Clinton.
• Boys 13-14 400 IM Relay: Ryan Eldred, Harrison Clinton, Rafael Adi, and David Zevgolis.
• Girls 15 and older 400 Free Relay:  Ana Wolff, Kennedy Drew, Taylor Steele, and Jenn Paul.
• Girls 15 and older 400 IM Relay: Kater Wolff, Taylor Steele, Jenn Paul, and Ana Wolff.

During the weekend, Ryan Eldred (100 Fly, 200 Fly, 100 Free), John Grey Crosby (100 Fly, 200 Free), Casey Mitchell (100 Breast, 200 Back), and Taylor Steele (200 Breast) earned new sectional qualifying times. Eight CAC swimmers have now qualified for the more-exclusive Sectional meets to be held in March 2017 in Greensboro, NC:

• Age Group Sectionals (ages 14 and under):  Ian Morgan, Harrison Clinton, and Ryan Eldred.
• Senior Sectionals (ages 15 and older):  Taylor Steele, Olivia McGonigal, Kater Wolff, Casey Mitchell, and John Grey Crosby.

CAC will host the Palmetto Championship Lower State Meet at the North Myrtle Beach Aquatics and Fitness Center during the weekend of March 24-26, 2017.

The members of this year’s CAC Short-Course State Championship team include: Rafael Adi, Cameron Bonham, Ryan Boudreau, Harrison Clinton, Hurley Cribb, John Grey Crosby, Jonah Crosby, Kennedy Drew, Ryan Eldred, Joe Guthinger, Lucas Harrelson, Jensen Helgerson, Dan Hennington, Sean King, Olivia McGonigal, Casey Mitchell, Ian Morgan, Ethan Nechemia, Michael Paglio, Marissa Patricio, Jenn Paul, Allen Poston, Summer Ratley, Ben Richards, Camila Sheppard, Chloe Stampfle, Taylor Steele, Saman Vitharana, Peyton Widner, Ana Wolff, Kater Wolff, and David Zevgolis.
