Myrtle Beach caps marathon golf tour with top-five finish

The Myrtle Beach boys golf team played its fourth round of tournament golf in as many days on Tuesday, finishing fifth in the tough, 10-team Anderson Brothers Bank Golf Championship.

Following a 12th-place showing in the 20-team Lowcountry Classic in Edisto Island, the Seahawks returned home (or at least closer to it) for the two-day Anderson tournament, played in Florence on Monday and Marion on Tuesday.

The Seahawks were led by sophomore Mark Karavan, who fired a 156 for eighth-place individual showing. He followed closely by brother Kohler Karavan, who tallied 157.

Freshman Michael Leftis shot 166 and eighth-grader Ethan Hood finished at 173 to give the Seahawks a team score of 652. Myrtle Beach barely missed out on a third-place showing.

It was a similar story for the Seahawks in the Lowcountry Classic, where Mark Karavan fired a first-round 71 for a second-place showing midway through the tourney. He finished in eighth place overall with a total score of 148.

Kohler Karavan finished with a two-day total of 151, Leftis shot a combined score of 161 and Hood rounded out the team scoring at 176 as the Seahawks narrowly missed out on a top-five finish.
