Myrtle Beach Riptides roll at state championship meet

mbriptides The Myrtle Beach Riptides swim team competed at the 2014 SC Swimming State Championships at the Westside Aquatic Center in Greenville over the weekend.

The Riptides sent 11 swimmers to competition, which hosted over 770 athletes from around the Palmetto State.  The Riptides were able to achieve 39 personal-best times, 17 team records and four new Age-Group Sectional Championship time standards.

Chad Bateson earned three personal bests in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.99), 200 backstroke (2:05.09) and 1650-freestyle (16:49.31, team record).

Eddie Bateson swam to six personal bests in the 1000 free (9:59.65 and 9th place finish), 100 breaststroke (1:03.99), 400 IM (4:23.09, team record), 500 free (4:50.03, team record), and 1650 free (17:00.98).

Connor Campbell led all Riptides with 8 personal best times and swam to 5 new team records.  Best times were in the 200 free, 100 IM, 100 fly (team record and 10th place finish), 100 free (team record), 50 backstroke, 50 free (team record), 100 backstroke (team record) and 200 IM (team record).

Julia Campbell, competing in her final meet as she prepares to join Converse College in the fall, swam to a personal best in the 1000 free, dropping nearly 10 seconds (11:10.33).

Andi Churchill earned three personal bests in the 200 backstroke (2:23.23), 200 free (2:04.68) and slashed 45 seconds from her 1650 free (18:51.36, 10th place finish).

Connor Churchill earned three personal bests as well in the 50 fly (33.59), 500 free (6:05.37) and dropped nearly 1:00 from his previous best in the 1650 free (20:39.48, Age-group Sectional standard).

Alyssa Cozart, competing in her very first State Championship, swam to a personal best 37.99 in the 100 breaststroke.

Danielle Flaherty earned two best times I the 200 breaststroke (2:49.61) and 100 breaststroke (1:18.42).

Walker Harwell picked up 4 personal best times in the 400 IM (4:19.49), 200 breaststroke (2:12.76), 100 free (50.45) and 100 butterfly (55.58).

Lexi Roberts swam to six personal best times, which were all new team records.  Roberts’ swims were in the 200 free (Age-group Sectional standard, 10th place finish), 100 IM, 100 free (Age-group Sectional standard, 7th place finish), 50 backstroke (Age-group Sectional standard, 9th place finish), 50 freestyle and 50 breaststroke.

Chase Teasley earned personal bests in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.69) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.22).
