MB, NMB, Socastee score victories over county foes

It may be way too early to tell, but it appears the Myrtle Beach and Socastee girls tennis teams are on a collision course for the region championship.

The Seahawks (3-0) and Braves (3-1) swept 7-0 straight-sets victories on Wednesday, with Myrtle Beach acing Aynor and Socastee sweeping Conway.

The Seahawks stayed unbeaten in singles matches this season at a perfect 21-0. No. 1 Rachel Berkey and No. 2 Jessie Dumas scored 6-0, 6-0 sweeps.

No. 3 Bailey Deskins won her singles match 6-1, 6-2 before teaming up with Jessie Baker to take an 8-3 pro-set victory in No. 1 doubles.

Other winners were No. 4 singles Emmas Springs, No. 5 Paxton Gentry and No. 2 doubles partners Catherine Truluck and Carolyn Gore.

Not to be outdone, Socastee rolled past the Lady Tigers while losing only two sets, but No. 3 Hailey Duvall and No. 5 Alexis Soto bounced back to win tiebreakers.

No. 1 Anna Brice Cox and No. 2 Kee Kee Alston won their singles matches before joining forces to dominate the No. 1 singles pro set.

In other action, Socastee’s Joy Renfrow won at No. 4 singles, and Destiny Watts and Sydney Pitts teamed up to win at No. 2 doubles.

* North Myrtle Beach 5, Carolina Forest 2: The Lady Chiefs took four of five singles matches to clinch the victory over the Lady Panthers on Wednesday.

North Myrtle Beach winners were No. 1 singles Caitlyn Wolf, No. 2 Anna Coggeshell, No. 4 Jessie Ellia and No. 5 Kimarria Vereen. Wolf and Ellia also won at No. 1 doubles.

Winners for Carolina Forest were Jaden Nye at No. 3 Singles, and in No. 2 doubles Drew Limpasuvan and Sophia Gouhin won in straight sets.

The Lady Panthers return home on September 17th for their region opener versus South Florence. Match time is 5 p.m.
