Myrtle Beach tops Hartsville to reach Lower State final

mbgtennis-whitesThe Myrtle Beach High girls tennis team advanced to the Class 3A Lower State championship match on Friday by defeating Hartsville 6-1 in the Lower State semifinals at the Myrtle Beach Tennis Center.

Myrtle Beach once again dominated its foe, narrowly missing out on another clean sweep. No. 2 singles Emma Springs suffered the team’s lone loss in a hard-fought third-set tiebreaker, but teamed up with No. 1 singles Elizabeth Truluck to win No. 1 doubles in a pro set.

Truluck led a string of straight-set victories, as No. 3 singles Bailey Deskins, No. 4 Paxton Gentry, and No. 5 Sarah Woodard rolled to wins. Lone senior Catherine Truluck and Cayce Roberts joined forces to sweep No. 2 doubles.

The defending Class 3A state champion Lady Seahawks (17-3) move on to face Hilton Head Island on Monday with the winner advancing to the state championship next Saturday.
