Seahawks’ Sessions named Region 8 Player of the Year

Myrtle Beach High senior phenom Khadijah Sessions has been named the Region VIII-AAA girls Player of the Year despite a down year for the two-time defending state champion Lady Seahawks.

After losing six seniors off last year’s squad and having co-leader Tanisha Brown go down with a knee injury, Sessions has had to carry the Lady Seahawks on her back to a 19-5 overall record and a second-place finish in the region.

Sessions, who has committed to playing next season at the University of South Carolina, also won the award as a freshman and sophomore. She has averaged a double-double in region play with 32 points and 11 rebounds and also averaged five steals and four assists per game region contest.

After earning its first-ever region championship, St. James placed two players on the all-region first team, seniors Keyanna Rutledge and Stephanie Roberts. They also helped the Lady Sharks to their first 20-win season in school history.

North Myrtle Beach junior Taylor Allman led the Lady Chiefs to a third-place finish in the region and their first victory over Myrtle Beach in seven years. Georgetown sophomore Taziyah Moody rounded out the first team, which was voted on by region coaches.

Socastee junior Kirstin Zanardo was named the all-region newcomer, and St. James skipper Stan Patterson earn the region coach of the year for leading the Lady Sharks to their first region crown.
