NMB girls, MB’s Flannelly runners-up at Lower State

nmbgxc-regionThe North Myrtle Beach High girls cross country team and Myrtle Beach freshman Tyler Flannelly claimed second-place finishes at Saturday’s Class 4A Lower State qualifier at Darlington Middle.

North Myrtle Beach’s Wilson Jenerette (19:38) was third across the finish line to lead a pack of Lady Chiefs to a runner-up showing to winner Hilton Head. Breeauna Spickler (20:50) placed 10th, Macy Werner (21:47) was 14th, and Taylor Monahan (21:54) and Emily Worsham (21:58) took 16th and 17th to give the Lady Chiefs 59 total points.

St. James finished fifth, led by Karleigh Jones (22:54) in 23rd, to earn a spot in next week’s state championship meet. Myrtle Beach missed the cut in 11th place.

In boys action, Flannelly (16:59) was second across the finish line to lead the Seahawks (170) to a seventh-place showing. St. James (100) finished third thanks to top-10 showings by sixth-place Nolan Fuss (17:11), eighth-place Christopher Young (17:38) and ninth-place Ryan Hughes (17:39). North Myrtle Beach finished 11th.

* In Class 5A, the Socastee High boys finished sixth overall with 116 points, led by seventh-place Keahi Mendoza (17:00), 23rd-place Nick Lefever (17:58), and 25th-place Elijah Lawson (18:00). Ward Wilson (18:29) and Lucas Davis (18:39) finished 36th and 42nd, respectively, to round out the scoring for the Braves at the Lower State qualifier at Wannamaker Park in North Charleston.

Carolina Forest’s Michael Pieterse was the top-placing local boy in Class 5A, finishing sixth. Jacob Dulson (18:22) and Joseph Muniz (18:29) finished 33rd and 38th, respectively, to help the Panthers (179 points) finish seventh as a team. Conway’s Shane Moody (17:28) took 15th to lead the Tigers, followed by Monroe Thompkins (18:33) in 40th place as Conway finished ninth with 235 points.

In Class 5A girls action, Conway’s Kenia Smith finished fourth with a time of 20:39 to lead the Lady Tigers (181) to a sixth-place team finish. Socastee’s Kasie Ingram (21:32) placed 19th, Jenneke Morin (22:03) finished 26th, and Jill Dudley (23:14) placed 36th to lead the Lady Braves (189) to an eighth-place team showing. Carolina Forest (249) placed ninth.
