NMB teen Jenerette, MB’s Tilford win Turtle Strut 5K

nmbcx-jenerette-sistersThe 23rd Annual Pawleys Island Turtle Strut saw a serious youth movement on Saturday when 13-year-old Wilson Jenerette captured the overall female division.

The North Myrtle Beach High track athlete (although she’s still in middle school) completed the 5K course in 21 minutes, 14 seconds – more than a minute ahead of runner-up Carolann Saracco of Myrtle Beach (22:37) and third-place Mary Margane McEachern of Wlington (22:51), who are both in their 40s.

Myrtle Beach resident and 39-year-old Howie Tilford kept the medal honors on the Grand Strand by winning the men’s division in a time of 20:14. Neighbors Danny Butler (20:25) and Bryan Meyers (21:07) made it a Myrtle Beach sweep of the top three men’s spots.

A total of 84 runners braved the cold morning air to take part in the traditional event through the streets of Pawleys Island. Final times and overall finishes are listed below, courtesy of Coastal Timing:
