NMB’s Poston returns home to play in Swanny’s Classic

Myrtle Beach already boasts one of the top high school basketball tournaments in America with the Beach Ball Classic.

Now the Grand Strand is developing a similar showcase for prep schools in the Swanny’s Classic, which will be played this weekend at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center in North Myrtle Beach.

The Swanny’s Classic is only in its second year but is already attracting some of the top prep school talent in the nation, as well as a few top players from our own backyard.

Most notably is Faith Baptist Christian’s Dylan Poston, who was a three-year starter at North Myrtle Beach before transferring to the Brandon, Fla. school for his senior season. Poston has signed to play college ball at Mercer.

“(Dylan) is a tough, hard-nosed competitor that is willing to do whatever is takes to help his team win,” FBC coach Ryan Pannone said of the 6-foot-4 guard. “Dylan is a self-made player. … Throughout his career, he has out-worked players that were more talented to earn his success.”

That’s the common goal among the athletes for the 17 teams that are coming to Myrtle Beach this weekend from as far away as New York and Pennsylvania to Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. College scouts are sure to make their way to the Strand to check out all that talent under one roof.

The two-day tournament tips off at 2:45 p.m. Saturday and at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Games will be played on two courts simultaneously with 10 games set for Saturday and 12 on Sunday.

Fans can purchase a one-day pass for $10 or a all-events pass for $15. High school students will be admitted for $3 and children 12 and under get in free.
