No. 16 Coastal wins eighth straight by taming Terriers

The 16th-ranked Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team won their eighth straight game and remained perfect on the road after defeating Wofford College, 2-1, Tuesday night in Spartanburg,.

Ricky Garbanzo opened the scoring in the 28th minute on a pass from Cyprian Hedrick from the right side of the box for his fourth goal of the season.

A yellow card on Alex Hutchins led to the second goal of the night for Coastal. The nation’s second leading goal scorer, Ashton Bennett scored his 15th goal of the year on a penalty kick in the 38th minute to give the Chants a 2-0 halftime lead.

Wofford’s lone goal came after a penalty kick by Hutchins in the 70th minute pulling the Terriers within one.

Coastal improved to 3-1 against Southern Conference opponents and 12-2 overall.

The Chants out shot the Terriers 15-5 and Coastal had seven corner kicks to Wofford’s two. Each team was caught offside twice.

The 16th-ranked Chanticleers return home after a three game road stretch Friday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. to take on VMI at the CCU Soccer Field.
