Volleyball: NMB, CF, MB sweep in region openers

nmbvolley-huddleAfter dropping three straight contest to North Carolina foes, the North Myrtle Beach High volleyball team was happy to be back home and competing against a more familiar foe Tuesday.

The Lady Chiefs (9-6, overall, 1-0 region) opened Region 7-4A play against visiting St. James, sweeping the Lady Sharks by scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-18.

The Lady Chiefs had a strong showing both offensively and defensively. Sydney Bellamy had a season high 15 kills, followed by Maggie Hash with nine kills. Freshman Kaydee Runion had a big night in the middle with six blocks and six kills.

The Lady Chiefs travel to play Marlboro County on Thursday.

* Carolina Forest 3, Sumter 0: The Lady Panthers improved to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in Region 6-5A play by defeating Sumter in straight sets, 25-10, 25-18, and 25-13.

Leading for the Panthers was Alexis Tomlin with 17 kills and nine service points. Kenzlie Andresen added 10 kills and Meghan DeVaux had 10 service points and 14 digs.

* Myrtle Beach 3, Wilson 0: The Lady Seahawks opened Region 7-4A play with an easy win over the visiting Lady Tigers.

Lopsided set scores of 25-5, 25-6 and 25-7 allowed Myrtle Beach to substitute liberally and spread the stats around evenly for a total team victory.

* Christian Academy 3, Trinity-Byrnes 2: Despite dropping two of the first three sets, the Lady Saints rallied on the road to win the match in a fifth-set tiebreaker.

Christian Academy won the first set 25-17 but saw Trinity-Byrnes take the next two 25-16, 25-19. But the Lady Saints took the fourth set 25-17 and won the tiebr4aker 15-13 to come home happy with the win.

Julia Markley had a team best 13 kills and Natalia Antonucci added 12. Natalie Markley made a team high 26 assists.
