The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, shutout the Winston-Salem Dash 6-0 on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark, lowering their magic number to clinch the first-half Southern Division Championship to three.

All-Star Duane Underwood Jr. fired seven shutout innings for his sixth win and lowered his ERA to 1.85. The Dash (28-36) managed just three baserunners off of Underwood Jr. Jake Peter extended his league-best hit streak to 19 games with a first-inning single. Adam Engel doubled to open the fourth, and Omar Narvaez coaxed a walk in the seventh. That’s all that reached off of the Pelicans All-Star right-hander in seven innings of work. He struck out four and earned his sixth win.

The Pelicans scored a run in the second and sixth and two in both the fifth and ninth innings. Jacob Rogers hit his team-leading eighth home run to lead off the sixth inning to make it 4-0. Rogers went 3-for-4, failing to complete the cycle with a strikeout in the eighth. He doubled in the second and singled in the fourth. He also scored twice.

Winston-Salem starter Matt Heidenreich (8-2) allowed four of the six runs, three of which were earned. The league-leader in wins suffered his second loss of the year and his second in his last three starts. He allowed a season-high-tying ten hits and struck out eight, walking none.

Mark Zagunis extended his road on-base streak to 31 games, going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI, a run scored, and a walk.

The Pelicans complete their final road trip of the first half on Wednesday against the Dash at BB&T Ballpark with the first pitch set for 7 p.m.
