Pelicans returning to local air waves for 2017 season

pels-trophyAfter televising seven games during Myrtle Beach’s championship 2016 campaign, CW21 (WWMB) will broadcast every single Pelicans weekend home game throughout the 2017 season.

The first of 20 telecasts is set for 7 pm. on Saturday, April 15, when the Birds host the Lynchburg Hillcats in a rematch of the 2016 Mills Cup Championship Series.

“We are excited to partner with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans again this year to bring the excitement of live Pelicans baseball to the community,” said WWMB CW21 general manager Billy Huggins. “This year’s expanded schedule is an example of our commitment to supporting the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and local sports on WWMB CW21.”

Each Saturday broadcast will begin at 7 p.m. for a 7:05 p.m. game. All Sunday telecasts start at 6 p.m. for a 6:05 p.m. first pitch, with the exception of the following dates: May 7, May 14 and August 27; each of these games will be played at 3:05 p.m., with CW21 beginning coverage at 3 p.m.

Scott Kornberg returns for his second season as the Pelicans’ lead broadcaster and will handle the play-by-play on all CW21 telecasts. He will be joined in the booth by a variety of color commentators, including former Major Leaguer Lloyd Merritt, and Myrtle Beach High School head baseball coach Tim Christy.
