Pieterse, Montgomery, Krier take podium at Beach Run

Lisa Pieterse of Carolina Forest was the lone local track and field athlete to capture a gold medal in Saturday’s finals of the ninth annual Beach Run Classic in Myrtle Beach.

Pieterse took first place in the girls 3200 meter run with time of 11:46.14, and she also finished seventh in girls 1600 meter run with time of 5:25.65 to lead a big day for the Panthers.

Carolina Forest’s Ashleigh Turner finished eighth in the girls shot put (32-6),  and Erin Farley was 10th in the girls discus throw (89-01) for the Lady Panthers.

For the Carolina Forest boys, Jawan Butler tied for fifth in the high jump (5-10), Davante Carter took sixth in the boys 200 meters, Shamiem Hemingway placed seventh in the hammer throw and Jesse Patrick was 10th in the  1600 meters.

Myrtle Beach’s Nadia Geathers took seventh in the girls 400 hurdles with time of 1:12.59, finishing just ahead of a pair of runners from Carolina Forest – No. 8 Cristina Wright (1:12.73) and No. 9 Michelle Blanding (1:12.88).

Myrtle Beach’s Jack Montgomery was the top finishing local boy with a runner-up showing in the boys 400 hurdles (56:41).

North Myrtle Beach’s Marshawn Scott took seventh in the boys 110 hurdles (15:44) and Tresman Davis tied for 10th in the boys pole vault (9-6).

St. James senior standout Billy Krier finished third in boys 1600 meters (4:24.87) to claim a spot on the podium, and he took fourth in the boys 800 meters (2:02.79). St. James’ Donnie Tucker (10-6) was fifth in the boys pole vault, Heather Jewell (9-0) placed sixth in the girls pole vault, Valerie Gore was eighth in the girls pole vault, and Conner Brown was eighth in the boys shot put.

More than 1,000 athletes from 56 schools and 11 states took part in the two-day event at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, where the 10th annual event will be held in 2014.
