Rain chases Chanticleers into baseball practice facility

The Coastal Carolina football team did not let inclement weather slow it down Tuesday as the squad split and took turns using the Boni Belle Practice and Hitting Facility, a covered and turfed home for the Chanticleer baseball and softball programs.

Steady rain from noon until the start of practice Tuesday evening made the grass practice fields too wet.

The defense took to the Boni Belle Facility first, working in individual groups before a short time with the entire unit coming together. In the meantime, the offense met as a unit, studying film. The specialists did not get a break, taking to the soaked practice fields to work on their drills.

Afterwards, the whole team was at the facility and the squad worked on kickoff return and kickoff coverage. The entire team stayed inside to scrimmage each other, working mostly on the run game in the somewhat confined area.

The offense remained in the Boni Belle Facility for the remainder of the session, while the defense took to the meeting rooms. After some individual drills, the offense came together and used the final periods to work on its passing game.

“I thought today was a good day,” said offensive coordinator Dave Patenaude. “I thought we had much better tempo and energy today. I was glad to see our players adapt to the circumstances. Whether we are on the practice field, game, field, in this wonderful facility, on a tennis court or parking lot, it does not matter. We have to stay focused, execute and overcome obstacles. We did that today.”
