Saints rally to claim region crown in dramatic fashion

cambhoops-regionchampsThe Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach boys basketball team pulled off a big comeback to win the SCISA Region 3-2A tournament championship 71-68 over Trinity-Byrnes on Tuesday night at Coker College in Hartsville.

Bryce Schneider made three key plays in the final seconds to complete the rally. His steal and layup proved to be the game-winning basket, and then he made a potential game-saving block on Trinity-Byrnes last-second attempt. The Saints iced it after trailing by eight points at halftime and entering the final quarter.

Justin Busby, who led the Saints with 28 points in the final. was named region MVP. He was joined on the all-region first team by Schneider and Michael Green, who added 13 and 12 points, respectively. CAMB co-coach Colin Stevens was named the region coach of the year.

The Saints advance to the SCISA Class 2A state tournament on Saturday at the Sumter Civic Center, where they will face Thomas Sumter Academy in the opening round. Tip-off time is 5 p.m.
