Saints solve Titans to take region tournament crown

The third time proved the charm for the Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach boys basketball team, which knocked off Trinity-Byrnes 65-62 in Tuesday night’s SCISA Region 3-2A championship game.

After dropping the home-and-away series to Trinity-Byrnes during the regular season, the Saints solved the Titans in the one that counted on a neutral court at Coker College in Hartsville.

The Saints earned a No. 2 seed in the SCISA Class 2A state tournament and will face Spartanburg Christian at noon Saturday at the Sumter Civic Center.

CAMB’s Mike Green capped a big day of awards with a clutch performance down the stretch. He scored 24 points, including 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the finals minutes, to lead the Saints. He was named the Region Player of the Year and the Tournament MVP.

Teammate Jaylen Johnson scored 12 points and made both the all-region and all-tournament teams. Robert Guyton narrowly missed a double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Jalen Matthews, Davis Guyton and Sam Woods also made the all-region squad.
