Sellers steps down as first lacrosse coach at Coastal

Coastal Carolina University director of athletics Matt Hogue announced today he has accepted the resignation of women’s lacrosse head coach Jaime Sellers.

Sellers just completed her fourth season at the University – third on the playing field – as the Chanticleers’ first and only lacrosse head coach.

“The decision to relocate with my fiancé is one that was incredibly difficult to make,” Sellers said. “I am so proud of this program and the efforts of both our staff and student-athletes over the past four years as we laid the foundation that is Coastal Carolina lacrosse. I would like to thank Hunter Yurachek, Cari Rosiek and Matt Hogue for their leadership during my tenure. I wish nothing but the best for this program, the players and CCU.”

Sellers had a breakthrough season this past spring. The Chanticleers were 11-6 overall (5-2 in the Big South) and reached the semifinals of the conference’s tournament championship.

“We are grateful for Jaime’s service to CCU as well as her efforts in starting our lacrosse program and laying an excellent foundation for the program’s future,” said Hogue. “We wish her all the best in her new endeavor.

“Assistant Coach Molly O’Brien will oversee program operations during the interim period while we conduct an immediate national search for a new head coach.”

Sellers was named Coastal Carolina’s first lacrosse coach on August 9, 2011 and used the 2011-12 academic year to build a schedule, develop the infrastructure of her program and recruit a team that began competition in February of 2013.

In her three seasons, Sellers posted a 21-29 record, while going 10-11 in Big South matches.

In addition, Sellers’ student-athletes excelled in the classroom during her tenure with the Chanticleers. The program earned IWLCA Academic Squad honors in each of her three seasons, had a total of 65 Big South Presidential Honor Roll recipients and had the program’s first Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year in Lily Yednock.
