Sellout crowd sees P-Nats deal Pelicans another loss

Jared Young blasted a home run Thursday, but the Myrtle Beach Pelicans lost 6-3 to the Potomac Nationals in front of a sellout crowd of 6,599 fans from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.

The Nationals (48-46, 11-16) jumped out in front early on Pelicans (46-51, 12-15) starter Rollie Lacy (1-1). Bryan Mejia led off the game with a double before Ian Sagdal singled him home. After Aldrem Corredor ripped a single of his own, Rhett Wiseman crushed a three-run home run to make it 4-0 Potomac.

The P-Nats added on in the second inning when Sadgal bashed a solo shot of his own.

Myrtle Beach found the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tyler Alamo and Andruw Monasterio collected back-to-back singles to begin the inning before Wladimir Galindo hit into a fielder’s choice. Alamo scored on a Potomac throwing error to make it 5-1.

In the fifth, the P-Nats answered right back with an RBI single from David Masters to push the advantage to 6-1.

Young off the sixth inning with a solo homer, his second of the season and first at home. Later in the frame, Galindo crushed an RBI double to cut the deficit to 6-3.

Joan Baez (5-8) earned the win for the Nationals, allowing three runs over his 5.1 innings.

Erick Leal tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen with three strikeouts for Myrtle Beach.

The Pelicans look to salvage their three-game series with the Nationals at 7:05 p.m. on Friday.
