Seven CAC swimmers bring the heat at Greenville meet

cac-greenville2014 (2)Seven swimmers from the Coastal Aquatic Club (CAC) represented the team at the annual Bring the Heat meet hosted by Team Greenville (SC) over the weekend.

Swim teams from both Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee participated in the meet.  During the summer long-course swim season, swimmers complete in the Olympic-sized 50 meter pools.

The following age group classes were used:  8 and under; 9-10; 11-12; 13-14; and 15 and older. CAC swimmers recorded personal best times in 25 of 48 events entered (52 % of their races).   They posted six new qualifying times for the Long-Course state championship meet.

The top performers for the weekend are listed:

* Sophia McKanna: 1st in 50 Back; 2nd in 100 Back; 3rd in 100 Free; 4th in 50 Free; 5th in 100 Breast; 7th in 100 Back; 10th in 50 Fly; 10th in 200 Back.  Sophia earned new state qualifying times in 5 events (50 Back, 100 Back, 50 Free, 100 Free, 100 Breast)

* Mason Bryan: 1st in100 Back; 3rd in 400 Free; 4th in 100 Free; 6th in 200 Back; 6th in 400 IM; 8th in 100 Fly; 8th in 200 Free.  Mason set a new CAC Team Record in the 100 Back with a time of 1:02.21.

* Andre Fachin: 2nd in 50 Free; 2nd in 100 Free; 3rd in 100 Fly; 5th in 200 Free.

* Kater Wolff: 2nd in 100 Back; 4th in 200 Back; 4th in 100 Breast; 5th in 200 Breast; 5th in 50 Free; 6th in 100 Fly; 8th in 100 Free; 9th in 200 Free. Kater posted a new state qualifying time in the 100 Back.

* Ana Wolff: 2nd in 100 Breast; 2nd in 50 Free; 3rd in 100 Free; 5th in 100 Back; 7th in 200 Breast; 7th in 200 Free; 9th in 200 Back; 9th in 100 Fly.

*  Jane Wolff: 6th in 200 Free; 7th in 50 Back; 9th in 50 Fly.

* Max Wolff: 11th in 50 Free; 12th in 100 Back; 19th in 100 Free

There are many families with multiple swimmers in competitive swimming.  Above, you’ll note four members of the Wolff family competed in this meet including Max Wolff.  Max has Down Syndrome and is thus classified by USA Swimming as a disabled swimmer.  Currently, Max is profiled on the South Carolina Swimming website as an excellent example of diversity and inclusion within competitive swimming.  He competes in all practices and events.  During meets Max often draws large cheers from other swimmers and their families.  In addition to swimming for CAC for the past 6 years, Max also swims for St. James High School.
