Sinclair fuels Seahawks’ comeback win over WF

Expectations were high for the Myrtle Beach High football team following last week’s disappointing season-opening loss to Charlotte Christian. Trailing 17-7 in early Friday night’s game against visiting West Florence, the Seahawks finally lived up to them.

Myrtle Beach senior running back Brandon Sinclair ran for three touchdowns and quarterback Drayton Arnold threw for two scores – both to wide receiver Keyonte Sessions – to lead the Seahawks to a 42-24 victory over the Knights. Sinclair broke loose for two of his TDs in the second quarter to erase the early deficit and put the Seahawks on top for good.

After being held without a touchdown in last week’s loss, it didn’t take the Seahawks long to get their well-known offense rolling. Arnold connected with Sessions for a 64-yard TD on the second play from scrimmage, but West Florence had some offense of its own, led by running back Aaron Darby. He led two TD drives and the Knights added a field goal to take a 17-7 lead.

With the crowd sitting in stunned silence, the Seahawks shifted gears to the ground game, and Sinclair did not disappoint. He had rushing TDs of 14 and 17 yards, plus a 69-yarder that was nullified by a penalty, to put Myrtle Beach back on top 21-17 at the half.

The Myrtle Beach defense came up with another big play early in the second half to pull away for good when Anthony Taylor scooped up a loose ball and ran it in for a 35-17 edge. The Knights tried to make it a game with a late TD, but Sinclair’s hat trick slammed the door.

The Seahawks (1-1) travel to Socastee next week.
