Socastee takes third place at Palmetto State Classic

socwrestle-slamThe Socastee High wrestling team captured another medal-stand finish in a major tournament over the weekend, taking third place at the 16-team Palmetto State Classic Wrestling Tournament at Irmo High .

The No. 3-ranked Braves placed third as a team with 228 points, finising behind winner behind Wando (276 pts) and runner-up Chapin (251).

Medals also were awarded to the top three wrestlers in each weight class. The Braves were lead by champions Justin Knipper (126) and Joe Smolenski (220).

Socastee’s Kyle Burton (285) placed second. Female wrestler Quin Gammon (113) and Logan Gammon (132) each took third place.

The Braves (11-0 duals, 1-0 region) will host region rival North Myrtle Beach for their first home region dual on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
